Carlos "Tito" Tarrago
was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1940 to Italian parents. He grew up
loving fine arts and gourmet food. He enrolled in the prestigious School of
Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, where he studied traditional oil painting, and
established many valuable friendships. While there, to challenge himself to
improve his skills, he created a college art society with his friends and
rivals.
Upon graduation from the
School of Fine Arts, Tito came to the United States and began working at the
prestigious Bel Aire Hotel while continuing his painting activities.
In 1982, to seriously
pursue gourmet cooking, he opened a now famous restaurant on Melrose Avenue
in West Hollywood. (Inspired by a famous tango singer from Argentina, he named
the restaurant "Gardells".) Tito continued to paint for numerous exhibitions
and to decorate his restaurant. Many celebrated Hollywood clients became enamored
with and purchased his work.
In 1996, due to increased
demand for his paintings, Tito sold the restaurant.
Like many impressionists,
Tito enjoys the beauty of many different subjects. His paintings capture idealic
images inspired by people, places, music, nature and friendships. Tito paints
the beauty that surrounds him in his present home, California, and from fond
memories of Italy, Spain, and France. The result is an artistic expression
that is deep in his warm, human experiences.
Recently, Tito held several
successful shows and exhibitions in the United States and Japan. His works
are also now in important collections in Washington D.C., Chile and Cairo,
Egypt.
